Dear Stratford Friends,
The Stratford family has been privileged to serve our students for over 45 years.
After all those years of delivering quality education, I must announce with a heavy heart that Stratford
will cease operations at the end of this term. A set of unfortunate circumstances have led us to this
The dedicated Stratford team is working with several other colleges and universities to enable you to
continue your education. Please know we are here to help you transition smoothly. We will be here
during this transition.
What led to this?
On August 19, 2022, the Department of Education decertified ACICS, our institutional accreditor. We
were given 18 months to find a replacement. We were well positioned to transfer within the time frame
because we had already applied to two other accreditors. We hoped for the best.
On August 25, 2022, the Department communicated the conditions that must be met during the 18
months. We were barred from enrolling new students. We were only authorized to teach those who had
already started. In addition, we were required to post a large Letter of Credit.
Sadly, these conditions made it impossible to continue in operation. Without new students, we would
not have the sufficient cash flow to operate. We will be forced to close operations at the end of this
term at all locations.
We worked hard to save the school, leaving no stone unturned. We almost had an investor from Silicon
Valley, but the actions of the Department made the deal impossible.
During the past week, we have worked diligently to identify accredited schools that can meet your
continuing education needs. While no guarantees can be made, these schools indicated to us they
would accept your Stratford credits on a case-by-case basis. We will do everything we can to help
facilitate this transfer process.
We will conduct a series of meetings to help you select a transfer school. We have worked hard to select
local schools that can meet your needs. The University of the Potomac will take care of Information
Technology, Business, and ESL students. Chamberlain will take of Nursing and Health Sciences students.
Other schools will be added.
Thank you for selecting Stratford. We wish you success in the future.
Dr. Richard R Shurtz, President
